Cat trees are awesome. Everybody loves cat trees. They do exactly what they're supposed to do: they provide our cats a place to scratch and knead that isn't our expensive human furniture. Or worse, our bodies!

One of the beauties of cat trees is that you can always add onto them, switch them out, or even make one yourself. They come in all shapes and sizes, so you can find one for any living situation. Not everyone can fit an entire cat tree in their home, and that's why lots of places are coming out with new space-conscious options. Among the coolest (and cheapest) is a new product from ALDI:

The Heart to Tail Corner Cat Scratcher is a new addition to ALDI's lineup, and it'll drop in stores in the coming weeks for an impressive $9.99. It features a few different fun textures, including a smooth top/bottom piece as well as two middle rigged pieces made of a softer material. There's a tried and true classic here, too: a dangly ball that the cat can bat around with their little paws.

This corner scratching post is small, about 16 inches high by 13 inches wide, and meant to wrap around the corners of walls. It fits on most bare walls and cased-openings and can be placed anywhere along that structure. Whether you want to create a wall-length climbing structure or butt your cat tree up against it for an extra touch, this is perfect! Keep in mind that it does require hardware for hanging, which may be a problem for some renters!

How to Make a Cool Cat Tree on a Budget

This corner cat scratcher has a boatload of potential. It helps protect your wall-corners from unwanted scratches and they're small enough to fit perfectly in apartments or even small homes. If you need it to be, this can be the main scratching post in your home with no issues.

However, it also makes a perfect addition to your current setup. It's easy enough to add into the mix, which will keep your cat feeling inspired to play. You can combine a structure like this with other shelves, too, and create an inexpensive cat scratching post that doesn't take up valuable floor space.

If you want to make your own cat scratching shelves to go along with something like the Heart to Tail Cat Corner Scratcher, you'll just need a few simple supplies:

    1. Some kind of a board (plywood or MDF is perfectly fine and cheap!)
    2. Carpet (you can pick one up at a thrift store or repurpose an old area rug)
    3. Rope
    4. Pompoms and strings to create those dangly toys
    5. A hot glue gun

If you had a thick enough shelf, you could even put this corner cat scratcher directly into it. Cat scratching places are incredibly important for a cat's overall health and well-being, but that doesn't mean they have to be bad for our wallets!
