Puritan </b></h2><p> The S. S. Puritan of the Michigan Transit Company, in charge Capt. Johnson, became unmanageable in the mud near their docks last Friday and it rammed the dock from the west side in such a way as to jar the company warehouse out of line a few inches. A little damage was done to the piling and docks, but the boat was uninjured. </p><p> The lowering of the lake level by the Chicago Drainage Canal has been the cause of an increasing amount of trouble in the local harbor and the accident Friday was due to this cause, according to a statement by the officials of the company. </p><h2 class="cci_subhead" title="CCI Subhead"><b><a class="chapter-anchor" id="elbertabridgeunderconstruction_1723216085971" tabindex="0"></a> Elberta bridge under construction </b></h2><p> The construction of the bridge between here and Elberta is going forward rapidly. A crew of men have been at work for the past three weeks and a temporary bridge, which was necessary to construct, has been erected and is now carrying the traffic. The removal of the old bridge will soon be accomplished, after which actual construction on the new $20,000 structure will get under way. </p><p> The mile of pavement north from the corner of Seventh and Main streets is expected to be completed this fall. Work on the grade at the north end was begun two weeks ago and last Friday the grading crew was sent to the south end of the stretch to start work. The change to the south end was made in order to eliminate any inconvenience the summer visitors might experience, due to the detours, as the bulk of the traffic will be off this stretch by the first of September.&nbsp; The actual laying of concrete will probably will take place some time next week, beginning from the south end of the mile.&nbsp; Work can be done north to the Catholic church with very little trouble to tourists using this road. </p><h2 class="cci_subhead" title="CCI Subhead"><b><a class="chapter-anchor" id="cherryproductionunderway_1723216241680" tabindex="0"></a> Cherry production underway </b></h2><p> The Cherry Pitting Station at Case Mill is crowded with fruit and working overtime this week. They have about thirty employees on the pay roll and on Tuesday pitted and sent by truck to the cold storage plant in Traverse City more than twenty tons put up in fifty gallon oak barrels. </p><p> This season, they have a large order for sugared cherries and in the pack on Tuesday used about four tons of sugar. The output for Wednesday was 33 tons of cherries and 8 tons of sugar. </p><p> Leonard Case is manager of the plant again this season. </p><h2 class="cci_subhead" title="CCI Subhead"><b><a class="chapter-anchor" id="coalbidswanted_1723216277217" tabindex="0"></a> Coal bids wanted </b></h2><p> Sealed bids for coal will be received by the Board of Education of School District No. 1, Crystal Lake Township, on or before September 4, 1924 at 8 p.m. The board reserves the right to accept or reject any and all bids. </p><p> Beatrice Woodward, Secretary </p></div></body>
