Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young was a highly celebrated rookie when he entered the league in 2018. Many saw him as the Hawks' much-needed savior.

But in 2022, Young found himself in the middle of trade rumors. But he also found unexpected support from one of the NBA's biggest names: Stephen Curry . Young said the Golden State Warriors star reached out to him via text to offer words of encouragement.

"He doesn't always hit me. Every now and then, he'll tap in and touch base," Young said on " Podcast P with Paul George ."

"But I remember the first time I was ever on the trade block, it was right before a play-in game, I think it was two years ago, and he texted me just telling me to stay focused and keep my head going."

Young, who has been compared often to Curry for his deep shooting range and playmaking ability, was moved by the gesture. He added that the two-time MVP hasn't stopped sharing bits of wisdom.

"He'll drop some knowledge and give me some advice every now and then as a supporter," Young shared. "He's always been helpful."

Young and Curry spent some time working out together in Sept. 2023.

Over the past few months, there have been speculations that Young could be traded to the Lakers . The Hawks have largely remained tight-lipped about their willingness to part with the spitfire guard.

The 25-year-old Young averaged 25.7 points and a career-high 10.8 assists per game last season. The Hawks missed the playoffs with a 36-46 record.
