ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The St. Louis Cardinals entered the second half of the season looking to make a run at not only a spot in the NL Wild-Card race, but also trying to catch the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central standings.

But the Cardinals' recent run of games has not been pleasant at all and have seemingly dashed those dreams to shreds. A 12-18 run in their last 30 games has not only dropped the Cardinals back further away from the Brewers in the NL Central standings, with the Brewers having a 7.5 games lead over the Cardinals, but the Cardinals also lagged behind in the NL Wild-Card Race, with the Cardinals now 3.5 games away from the third NL Wild Card spot, currently held by the Atlanta Braves.

Prior to the All-Star Break, the Cardinals were 4.5 games behind the Brewers and held the second NL-Wild Card Spot.

"Pretty much every function of the team is doing poorly," said Bernie Miklasz, longtime St. Louis radio personality on The Dave Glover Show Wednesday. "That's why they are 12-18 in their last 30 games. The second-worst record in the National League in that time. That just tells us it's not a good team."

Miklasz thinks the issues with the Cardinals isn't on Cardinals manager Oli Marmol and his staff, despite what some Cardinals fans seem to think. Miklasz believes there are some systematic issues within the Cardinals organization.

"I think Marmol has done the best with what he can," said Miklasz. "I know what he's working with and I don't any of the things that have gone wrong because of him."

"It reflects that the roster isn't as strong as it needs to be and a manager can only do so much with it."

Miklasz thinks that Cardinals owner Bill Dewitt Jr. is in a tough spot at the moment, especially considering the Cardinals attendance issues.

"The place isn't as full as it used to be and it's quite surprising to see so many empty seats," said Miklasz. "Bill Dewitt Jr. once told me that nothing bothers him more than empty seats so I got to believe he has to be upset with what he sees and I got to believe he won't do something to change it going into next season."
