Bryson DeChambeau saw the funny side of a playful jibe from fellow golfer John Daly as he issued the LIV Golf man with some advice over how to break his curse at the British Open .

The LIV Golf superstar has enjoyed a memorable year , having added the 2024 U.S Open title to his previous crown in the event four years previously. He also impressed as he finished in second place at the PGA Championship , while coming in sixth at the Masters during a strong season.

However, he was unable to take that momentum into the subsequent British Open at Royal Troon as he failed to make the cut, alongside Rory McIlroy . Coming into the championship as the world's No.9 ranked player, he struggled as he played amid 30 mph winds at the iconic Scottish course as he posted rounds of 79-75.

Reflecting on his troubles, Daly - who won the Open back in 1995 - had a joke at the expense of DeChambeau as he vowed to teach his compatriot how to "win a British Open", with this quip leading to some laughter from the star. Left stunned by the line, the LIV Golf ace smiled as he replied: "Wow, ok! Here we go."

The remark was made in good humor as the veteran handed his fellow player a box of cigars as they filmed an episode of "Break 50. Making good on his promise Daly then imparted some words of wisdom towards his peer as he said: "Just let the wind be your friend."

Speaking about his struggles at the Open before the 2024 edition at Royal Troon, DeChambeau said: "It can be a difficult challenge. I wouldn't say it's a problem. It's a challenge. I think that's what's so great about links golf and the Open Championship, and what it provides is a different test and a different test to try and figure out and get an ‘A’ on, I guess you could say.

"For me, I played well at Royal Lytham St. Annes when it was firm and fast in the Walker Cup (in 2015). Played well at St. Andrews," he said as he discussed the conditions in Britain. "Played well at other places. But it's always been a difficult test for me because I wasn't great at putting early on in my career."

Looking back over the experience at Royal Troon this year, DeChambeau admitted: "It’s a completely different test. I didn’t get any practice in it, and I didn’t really play much in the rain.

"It’s a difficult test out here. Something I’m not familiar with. I never grew up playing it, and not to say that that’s the reason; I finished eighth at St Andrews [at the 2022 Open]. I can do it when it’s warm and not windy."

Paying tribute to his fans after falling short of expectations in Scotland, he signed off on Twitter/X, saying: "Thanks for all the amazing support this week at The Open. Wasn't the outcome I was looking for but we'll be back stronger next time. Love you guys."
