Preseason honors continue to pour in for this Clemson star.

Senior linebacker Barrett Carter racked up two more accolades on Wednesday, when he was named to a pair of national outlets’ 2024 preseason All-America teams.

Carter earned first-team preseason All-American honors from ESPN.

“Clemson’s defense received great news when Carter announced last December he was returning for his senior season,” ESPN’s Chris Low wrote. “He’s a 6-1, 230-pound dynamo who has shown versatility throughout his career by moving around and playing different roles. He’s as effective rushing the passer as he is dropping into pass coverage. Dabo Swinney called Carter “one of the best pure football players I’ve had in 20 years.””

Clemson sophomore stalwart Peter Woods was also named to ESPN’s preseason All-America team as a second-team defensive tackle.

Meanwhile, CBS Sports named Carter a second-team preseason All-American.

Among other honors Carter has collected ahead of the upcoming campaign, he was pegged as a preseason All-American by Phil Steele earlier this summer, named preseason All-ACC by Athlon Sports , named a preseason Walter Camp All-American and selected to the All-ACC preseason team by credentialed media at the ACC Football Kickoff last month.

Additionally, Carter has been named to watch lists for the Wuerffel Trophy (presented annually in recognition of outstanding community service), the Bednarik Award (college defensive player of the year) and the Butkus Award (nation’s top linebacker).

As a second-team All-ACC selection in 2023, Carter ranked second on the team in tackles (67) and tallied 9.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, six pass breakups, an interception and a fumble recovery over 12 games (all starts).

A 2022 All-American, Carter enters the 2024 season credited with 170 tackles (21.0 for loss), 9.0 sacks, 15 pass breakups, three interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries over 38 career games (26 starts).
