BOAZ, Ala. (WHNT) – The Boaz Police Department says an officer shot an aggressive dog on Saturday after they received a call from a concerned resident.

Police say officers responded to a home on Aug. 10, where a mother said she and her son were “hemmed up” on their property by two aggressive dogs.

The mother told officers she was fearful for their safety due to the dogs’ actions. BPD says officers initially used pepper spray to stop the aggressive behavior.

“While on the complaints property, one of the dogs charged at the officer in a manner that was aggressive and could reasonably be believed intending to cause serious bodily harm,” the press release stated.

BPD says the officer then shot the dog in order to prevent an attack.
