    Victory League Aug. 10-12

    Below are summaries of Victory League games played during the second weekend of the Region 8C Tournament in Upsala between Aug. 10 and Aug. 12. The first round of the state tournament was on Saturday, Aug. 18 with some of the games played in Jordan.

    Billygoats lose to Foley in Region 8C Championship

    The Buckman Billygoats played in the Region 8C tournament championship game against Foley, Sunday, Aug. 11, losing 5-4. The Billygoats’ Ben Thoma led the team on the mound, throwing five strikeouts in seven innings. Thoma allowed one walk and five hits. At the plate, Aaron Weber went 2-4 with two RBIs, a double and a home run. Lane Girtz went 2-5 with two doubles and two runs. Foley had 12 hits and no errors while the Billygoats had nine hits and three errors.

    The Billygoats took will take on Webster in the first round of the Class C State tournament in Jordan Saturday, Aug 17 at 6:30 p.m.

    Brewers lose to Nisswa; defeats St. Wendel

    The Pierz Brewers lost the third place game to Nisswa 13-1 in seven innings Saturday, Aug. 10. The pitchers on the mound were Gunnar Wicklund, Phil Zynda and Fort Ripley Rebels draftee Jack Schafer. The pitchers threw a total of three strikeouts.

    The Brewers’ only run was scored by Ryan Stuckmayer in the top of the first inning. Stuckmayer went 1-3 at the plate and also earned a walk. Michael Nezerka went 1-3, also earning a walk. Nisswa finished the game with 14 hits and two errors. The Brewers had two hits and one error.

    In the Brewers’ also won their first game of the Region 8C Tournamen earlier in the day, beating St. Wendel 11-0 in seven innings. Jonah Prokott pitched five innings, throwing four strikeouts. Rylee Rauch pitched two innings with two strikeouts. Stuckmayer went 3-4 at the plate, having four RBIs and a double. Zynda went 1-3 with a home run. The Brewers ended the game with 15 hits and St. Wende had one. Neither team had an error.

    Both teams advanced to the Class C State Tournament. The Brewers will take on the Carver Black Sox in Jordan Saturday, Aug. 18 at 4 p.m.

    Skis beat Cold Spring and Moorhead

    The Sobieski Skis defeated Cold Spring 6-3 in the Section 2B Championship Sunday, Aug. 11. Beau Thoma pitched eight innings, throwing two strikeouts and allowed one walk. Dusty Parker pitched one inning, throwing one strikeout. Matt Filippi went 2-5 with four stolen bases and a run. Jake Kapphahn went 2-4 with a double and two RBIs. The Skis had 10 hits and two errors, while Cold Spring had nine hits and three errors.

    The Skis also beat the Moorhead Brewers in an earlier game, winning 12-0 in seven innings. Filippi went 4-5 at the plate with three runs, a stolen base and and an RBI. Matt Baier went 3-4 with two doubles, and RBI and three runs. Filippi also through four strikeouts in five innings. Parker pitched two innings, throwing one strikeout. The Skis finished with 16 hits and the Brewers ended with four. No errors were made.

    The Skis will advance to the to the Class B State Tournament, Saturday, Aug 17, playing against Hopkins at 11 a.m.
