U.S. Olympic Committee Accuses CAS of Shady Dealings in Jordan Chiles Decision

USA Gymnastics and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee are not done fighting for Jordan Chiles to get her Olympic bronze medal back.

The latest development in the ongoing saga comes after the USOPC claims the CAS sent emails regarding Chiles’ appeal to the wrong email addresses for U.S. officials, which has opened up a whole new can of worms.

“[There was an error] during the CAS appeal process, where the USOPC was not given adequate time or notice to effectively challenge the decision,” the USOPC told the USA Today . “As a result, we were not properly represented or afforded the opportunity to present our case comprehensively.”

The USOPC alleges that the CAS sent critical information to “erroneous” email addresses from Aug. 6-9, and the issue wasn’t noticed until 24 hours before the hearing, which was two days past the deadline to submit objections.

The CAS was notified immediately about the issue by the USOPC, which claims the hearing was rushed and it was denied the chance of a fair proceeding, but it didn’t change the results of the ruling to take Chiles’ medal away.

“Given these circumstances, we are committed to pursuing an appeal to ensure that Jordan Chiles receives the recognition she deserves,” the USOPC added. “We remain dedicated to supporting her as an Olympic champion and will continue to work diligently to resolve this matter swiftly and fairly.”

Chiles released a statement on Thursday, stating she felt the decision was “unjust” and she planned to make every effort to ensure justice was served.
