Man dead in shooting at Winchester Grove apartments

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is now dead after police say shots were fired overnight at a Whitehaven apartment complex.

According to police, around 9:30 p.m., officers responded to the shooting in the 3400 Block of Deer Run Court at the Winchester Grove Apartments. MPD says a male victim was found suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was then taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

A man who lives nearby says, “You can’t walk nowhere, you can’t go out to no clubs. I came here 30 years ago to visit my sister – it was nothing like this.”

From August 2023 until now, the City’s Data Hub has had 189 calls within a half-mile radius of the most recent attack just for assaults, homicides, and robberies.

No suspect information has been released at this time, but this is still an ongoing investigation.
