Preliminary estimates reported by the Kansas Department of Labor and the Bureau of Labor Statistics show a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 3.2% in July. This is an increase from 3.0% in June and an increase from 2.6% in July 2023.

According to labor economist Emilie Doerksen, seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs decreased by 1,700 from June. Private sector jobs increased by 3,900 over the month, while government decreased by 5,600.

“The private sector job growth was led by an increase in professional and business services jobs as well as a continued upward trend for trade, transportation, and utilities.”

Since July 2023 Kansas’ seasonally adjusted total nonfarm jobs have increased by 21,100. This change is due to an increase of 22,800 private sector jobs and a decrease of 1,700 government jobs.
