93.7 The Fan (PITTSBURGH) - The Pirates end their ten game losing skid with a 5-3 win over the Seattle Mariners.

Paul Skenes gave up a two-run home run to Luke Raley in the top of the fourth inning, to give Seattle a 2-0 lead. The Pirates offense then picked Skenes up with some runs.

Isiah Kiner-Falefa hit an RBI double to left field to score Bryan Reynolds in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the Mariners lead to 2-1. In the bottom of the fifth, Yasmani Grandal hit a solo home run and Andrew McCutchen sac flied home Michael A. Taylor to give the Pirates a 3-2 lead.

Oneil Cruz doubled home two more runs in the bottom of the seventh to give the Pirates some insurance runs.

"Big two out hit there," said manager Derek Shelton. "We had not gotten that over the last ten days."

Seattle would score just one run in the ninth on a Jorge Polanco home run.

"This was a team win," said Shelton. "We did a good job throughout the game. We got a big hit and we have not gotten those. So it is a bit of a sigh of relief."

Skenes pitched six innings, allowing just three hits, two runs, six strikeouts and four walks. He improves to 7-2 on the season.

Kiner-Falefa joined Dan Zangrilli on the Mount Pleasant Home and Remodeling Reaction Show after the win and believes the future is bright for the team.

"We can make a run this year and hopefully we can find a way to get in," said Kiner-Falefa. "I actually see this team being a 100 win team next season year. So I'm excited that I have next year here and I look at the pitching staff, you don't have to go out and get any free agents from a pitching front. I think the only guy that is a free agent is Aroldis Chapman. Other than that, you look at the pitchers, this is where guys want to play."

"You look at young guys coming up and the draft picks. Skenes is here so that means that window is officially opened up. I'm excited to be here and see what we can do," said Kiner-Falefa.

Pittsburgh hosts Seattle Saturday afternoon at 1:05 on the Fan. Bailey Falter will take the mound against Luis Castillo.
