Roulette, Pa. — An area college is putting on an EMT training course with a special offer for Potter County residents.

Northern Pennsylvania Regional College is offering an EMT training course for $350, and Potter County residents who pass the course may be eligible for a reimbursement.

People from outside of Potter County are also welcome to sign up for the course, but are not eligible for the same reimbursement.

Before beginning the course, all students are required to complete a placement test.

The course will begin on the morning of Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024 and will continue every other Saturday and Sunday through Sunday, March 2, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The class will meet at the Roulette Chemical Engine Company #1/Roulette Volunteer Fire Department located at 12 River Street in Roulette.

The course is open to up to 24 individuals and registration will close on Friday, Sept. 13 or earlier if all available spaces are occupied.

The 200-hour program teaches technical knowledge and skills needed to become a certified Basic Emergency Medical Technician. This includes all skills necessary to provide emergency medical care at a basic life support level with an ambulance service or other specialized service.

After successfully completing this course, students can take the National Registry exam for Emergency Medical Technician. Currently, NPRC has an above industry average cumulative pass rate of the National Registry exam at over 90 percent.

NPRC’s Vice President of Workforce Development, Adam Johnson, shared, “The County of Potter, local public safety professionals, and NPRC all recognize that expenses can be a barrier to training. Therefore, we’ve launched a program to offer low or no cost EMS training programs throughout its 10-county region. We are grateful for the County of Potter and Roulette Chemical Engine Company #1’s support to help fill the need for trained public safety professionals in Potter County and surrounding areas.”
