Many are expecting Cade Klubnik to take a big step in his development as he heads into his second season as Clemson’s full-time starting quarterback.

Klubnik was up-and-down as a first-year starter in 2023, as Clemson won just four of its first eight games. However, the Tigers would finish strong, winning each of their final five games, including a thrilling comeback win over Kentucky in the Gator Bowl that saw Klubnik lead the Tigers on a game-winning touchdown drive in the waning moments.

Klubnik carried some of the positive momentum into the spring and summer. Then, as the Tigers went through fall camp the junior quarterback really started to settle in, with defensive end TJ Parker noting a noticeable difference, particularly in the leadership he is providing.

“I’ve seen a lot,” Parker said. “Especially during the summer when we had a lot of summer workouts, he voiced up a lot of times. And the defense was fully behind him.”

Parker said Klubnik has really stepped up and everyone on the team has taken notice.

“Just (getting) the best out of everybody,” Parker added. “He’s just trying to be the best leader he can. Hold everybody accountable and everybody is going to hold him accountable. Just an accountability thing within the team and just leading by example.”

Klubnik passed for 2,844 yards last season, hitting on 63.4% of his throws, with 19 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Now that he has a season under his belt, more is expected, and Parker is anxious to see what the Tigers’ quarterback can accomplish in 2024.

“That’s what we are going to need to get to that next level is Cade being more vocal and he is doing a great job of that,” Parker said. “He’s had a great camp. Really proud of him and the strides he’s made since last season. Excited to see him go sling it.”
