After what was a very rocky quarterback battle throughout the offseason, the Las Vegas Raiders have finally decided who will be behind center for them when Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers rolls around.

Head coach Antonio Pierce told the media on Sunday that he'd be going with journeyman Gardner Minshew, giving him the nod over second-year quarterback Aidan O'Connell.

The decision comes after Pierce announced earlier this week, that he would decide after their Week 2 preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys. He likely would have preferred the decision to make itself based on performance, but neither quarterback shined on Saturday.

O'Connell seemed to be on his way to winning the job until disaster struck. An ill-advised pick-six late in the game against the Dallas reserves may have hurt his chances the most.

Minshew got the start and finished 10-of-21 for 95 yards, with a chunk of those yards coming from a deep pass where he connected with Tre Tucker. O'Connell replaced him later on and finished 14-of-20 for 96 yards with one passing touchdown, and one interception that went for a touchdown.

While O'Connell was more efficient, he never really showcased he could make the big play or extend plays with his legs. Minshew on the other hand is capable of creating with his legs, and will take a risk. While it doesn't always work out, it does give the offensive big play opportunities.
