Way-Too-Early Mock Draft: Giants Pick QB First Overall

    By Anthony Licciardi,

The New York Giants hit a milestone of sorts in their attempt to support Daniel Jones in his career resurgence. Armed with rookie receiver Malik Nabers and an upgraded offensive line, Jones made his return to game action for the first time since tearing his ACL in Week 9 of the 2023 campaign.

In the opening three drives of his first-half, Jones did little to inspire confidence in his game. Dropped interception. Interception. Interception.

Jones rebounded and eventually found the rhythm fans were looking for, but detractors and cynics alike found all the confirmation they needed in Saturday’s 28-10 loss .

The Giants still have a quarterback problem.

While it isn’t impossible for Jones to outplay expectations and earn himself more time in the Big Apple, New York continues to be projected an early pick in the 2025 NFL Draft – justifiably so.

That trend continued in the Vikings Wire’s latest mock draft , giving fans a look at what another draft cycle could mean for each franchise. New York’s administration can finally pick its own quarterback, and buy themselves job security in the process.

They do just that, picking first overall and making Georgia quarterback Carson Beck the new face of the Giants.

“The New York Giants decided to stick with Daniel Jones for one more year and brought in Drew Lock for insurance,” Andrew Harbaugh wrote. “Yeah, that isn’t a great plan at the quarterback position. I believe in Brian Daboll to get the most out of his quarterback, and with Carson Beck, I think the potential could surprise some people.

“The Giants have some skill players from their 2024 draft class that can be fun weapons for Beck. Get them all together while they are young so they can all progress together.”

One can argue that Georgia’s surrounding cast is an upgrade over what New York has given Jones, but pairing Beck with Nabers is an enticing avenue to explosive plays.

Beck has a little more arm talent than Jones and has earned more confidence in his intangibles. He navigates the pocket well, keeps the ball out of harm’s way, and is aggressive enough to break the game-manager label some scouts will tag him with. Being a part of the pressure cooker that is Georgia football doesn’t hurt, either.

There’s little certainty in the NFL Draft, much less so in the summer months, but there’s a reason Beck is the preseason QB1 and why New York is so frequently paired with the passer.

It’s on Jones to make sure the mock drafts are wrong.
