Matthew Judon Reveals 'Biggest Disconnect' With Patriots Before Trade

The Atlanta Falcons made a significant move ahead of the new season with the acquisition of veteran linebacker Matthew Judon.

The Falcons landed Judon via trade after he and the New England Patriots failed to come to terms on a new contract. The 32-year-old pass rusher publicly voiced his displeasure with the Patriots amid the issue.

While his exit with the Patriots after three seasons was not ideal, Judon acknowledged that trading him was just a "business decision." He was shipped in exchange for a 2025 third-round draft pick.

"It was tough, but it was something that I think the organization needed to do," Judon told NBC Sports Boston's "Sports Sunday," as reported by Darren Hartwell . "I love the game. It's just the business of it, it is what it is."

The four-time Pro Bowler made it clear that he wanted to return with the Patriots with a new deal. He added that his repeated requests to have a personal meeting with team officials to discuss his contract were not granted.

"I feel like we just never sat down and really came to the table with me," Judon added. "They kind of didn't know where I was at and we kind of didn't know where they were at.

"It was just always through text messages or phone calls. We just never sat down and actually talked about it. I think that was the biggest disconnect."

Now, he has found a new home. His addition marks a major upgrade for the Falcons' defense, as Judon brings with him a proven track record as one of the league’s top linebackers.

He also aims to bounce back after being limited to only four games last season due to a lower bicep injury.

Judon is expected to make his Falcons debut when they take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 8.
