They spotted a DVD set behind the counter with unique qualities that would make it valuable to the right buyer.

It was the 15th-anniversary collection of Avatar: The Last Airbender

It was an Avatar: The Last Airbender collection that included all of the Nickelodeon animated television show’s episodes during its three-season run.

According to a video from TikTok and expert thrifter BFlips ( @bflips7 ), the set cost $50 .

Still, it wasn’t any ordinary Avatar: The Last Airbender DVD set.

The collection was a special edition release created with artwork in honor of the show’s 15th anniversary.

It included steel casings around the discs, otherwise known as steelbooks, and other bonuses for fans.

The Avatar: The Last Airbender DVD set was also wrapped in plastic and unopened.

BFLips noted that due to the mint and unopened condition of the set, and the fact that it was a special edition with steelbooks, he managed to resell it on eBay for $250.

That’s effectively a $200 return on investment , potentially less given the costs for listing and shipping with eBay.

    VIDEO VALUE

It wouldn’t be the first DVD or VHS set to garner serious money .

A collector brought some original VHS tapes to the Pawn Stars during Season 2, valued at $315,000 .

They had a 1982 big-box version of Star Wars IV: A New Hope, which came out in 1977. An expert estimated it to be worth about $150,000 alone.

Other titles included in their VHS collection were 1979’s Halloween, valued at $90,000, and 1985’s Back to the Future, estimated to be worth about $75,000.

With an evaluation of $315,000 for everything and only a $190,000 offer from the Pawn Stars, the collector walked away.

Other thrift store finds like BFlips’ Avatar: The Last Airbender DVD set have also turned out to be worth considerably more after being bought for a relatively low price.

Here are some of the best thrift store finds:

    SWEET DISCOVERY

A thrifter who purchased a coffee table for around $20 in the 1980s recently discovered it was worth much more.

They took the table to be appraised by expert appraisers with Antiques Roadshow , who confirmed that it was made by designer Adrian Pearsall.

An appraiser told the owner it would be worth around $1,600 at auction.

Other thrifters have made similarly lucrative discoveries.

Someone recently located a $30 pair of Goodwill shoes worth $300.

Another managed to spot a golden bracelet worth $25,000 while browsing a local thrift store.

I hate " Goodwill". Such ripoffs. I bought new shirts and shorts this summer at Ross and stores like that and they were like $5 a piece. I first tried Goodwill and there prices for used stuff ( that is donated to them from people) is basically the same. Lots of poor people go into Goodwill cause they can't afford to buy new clothing, and Goodwill has the nerve to charge unrealistic prices. The people that donate there old clothes basically do it to help poor people, not to have your store jack up prices.
