Steve Spurrier predicts who will win the SEC in 2024 and he didn't go with the Georgia Bulldogs

Most folks -- outside of a few outliers -- seem to think that the Georgia Bulldogs will win the SEC in 2024.

And that's probably a smart prediction. Georgia has been the most dominant team in the SEC over the last several years. They have the best coach in the league in Kirby Smart and they obviously have plenty of talent. It's chalky, but it's probably a smart prediction.

Former Florida Gators head coach Steve Spurrier, however, doesn't have Georgia winning the SEC this fall.

Instead, he thinks it will be the Alabama Crimson Tide.

"Here's what I'm going to get out there right now," said Spurrier on Monday during an appearance on Another Dooley Noted Podcast . "I'm going to pick Alabama to win the SEC. I like [Kalen] DeBoer. And I think their players and their team will say we don't need our coach to win, we're going enough to win by ourselves. And this guy's a hell of coach, [Kalen] DeBoer. And I think they got a schedule they can work with. I think they do play Texas early. But obviously Georgia, Texas, and Alabama are the top three. I just think maybe Alabama will be the team to do it this year. And I'm going to pick the Gators to finish somewhere around fifth or sixth (in the SEC). Win between eight and 10 games, maybe nine, something like that."

Those are certainly some bold predictions from Spurrier. A first-year SEC head coach leading a program to an SEC championship would be quite a feat. Even if DeBoer proves to be a great head coach, there will still likely be an adjustment period for him in the SEC. Maybe Spurrier's prediction will prove to be right, but for now, it seems more likely that it won't.

Spurrier's prediction for Florida, however, is significantly more bold. Most national outlets have Gators head coach Billy Napier firmly on the hot seat -- thanks in large part to Florida's brutal schedule in 2024. Spurrier, though, has the Gators almost on the cusp of the newly expanded 12-team playoff.

That might be a bit of a "homer" pick from the Head Ball Coach.

Look Spurrier hates Georgia for obvious reasons Georgia kept him from winning an SEC title when he was a player. He made it his life mission to beat Georgia every time Florida played them, so much that he had a special playbook for them. It doesn’t surprise me at all that he didn’t pick Georgia lol
