Raiders Sign UDFA Jackson Mitchell

Usually, the preseason is a time teams take to trim their rosters down. Going into training camp, there can be upwards of 90 players on each roster, and coaches and general managers are then tasked with bringing that number all the way down to 53.

However, the Las Vegas Raiders decided to add to their roster earlier this week, rather than subtract. In doing so, they picked up Jackson Mitchell , an undrafted free agent out of UConn/

Mitchell is a linebacker, and he was a key part of UCONN's defense over the past four years. During that time, he's shown a lot of promise, and most importantly, consistency.

Mitchell played at least 10 games in all four years of his collegiate career and at least 12last three, compiling in each of the quite the resume.

Wrapping up his time at UCONN in 2023, Mitchell amassed 438 tackles, 25 of those for a loss, 7.5 sacks, three interceptions, seven passes defended and six forced fumbles.

Mitchell was statistically one of the better linebackers in the nation, but he didn't do enough to get drafted, and it took him a little while to get signed. However, he's now joining a very talented Raiders' defense for the 2024 season.

That defense has a lot of talent , but we've seen a couple of issues with depth throughout the preseason. The coaching staff may have noticed that, too, hence the signing of Mitchell this week.
