Chet Holmgren Calls Fake Beef with Victor Wembanyama

What's beef? It's definitely not a friendly NBA rivalry. Oklahoma City Thunder center Chet Holmgren may be too young to remember the Notorious B.I.G. classic song, but he understands the track's name. During the recent episode of Podcast P, Holmgren talked about his standing with the San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama.

Paul George asked about the "energy" when the two centers play against each other.

Holmgren responded that the "energy" comes from the star centers being competitors.

"People be like, 'Ya'll got beef?' I'm like, beef? We're out there competing... Why do I got beef with him? Honestly, I don't even know the guy," Holmgren claimed.

Holmgren and Wembanyama are not known for abrasively talking trash to opponents and aren't troublemakers on the court. They competed against each other before locking horns in the NBA. In July 2021, Holmgren played for Team USA's Under-19 team, where he first matched up against Wembanyama.

"We just play basketball against each other... As competitors, neither of us want to lose. Neither of us want to let the other person get a bucket or anything. We're always gonna compete, and if people take it as we got beef, then those people don't really understand competing, I guess," Holmgren said.

Passionate moments will occur in a league full of massive egos and ultimate competitors. However, confusing "beef" with good ole hard-nosed basketball will separate the thoroughbred hoopers from the novice.
