The former congressman was charged with many federal crimes as part of a plan to trick voters and steal money from supporters.

Santos Admitted To Committing Other Crimes As Well

According to U.S. Attorney Breon Peace, Santos "also admitted to committing all other crimes he was charged with," even though he only admitted to wire fraud and identity theft.

Peace's office says Santos admitted lying in a report to the House of Representatives, stealing identities, charging credit cards without permission, falsely claiming unemployment benefits, and filing false reports with the Federal Election Commission.

Santos will likely be sentenced on February 7 to a jail term of at least two years and no more than 22 years. He will have to pay back $373,749.97 and give up land worth $205,002.97.

Monday, Santos talked to people outside of Central Islip's courtroom. He said he was sorry for what he did and knew that he had let down his friends and constituents. He said that he hoped the plea would change his life for the better.
