Former NFL executive calls one Michigan Wolverines' position the 'best in college football' ahead of 2024 season

The Michigan Wolverines suffered plenty of attrition after their national championship season, with 13 players drafted in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Wolverines will have to replace ten (!) starters on offense, but luckily retain many talented players on defense, headlined by their elite defensive line.

The talent of their defensive line has captivated NFL evaluators throughout the summer and has given opposing offensive line coaches preemptive headaches in figuring out how to stop them. This week, the talents of Michigan's defensive line earned an endorsement from former NFL executive and Senior Bowl Executive Director Jim Nagy (as you can see in his post below).

Michigan's defensive line has been the talk of the summer with their elite interior duo of Kenneth Grant and Mason Graham. Despite losing Kris Jenkins, a second-round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals, Grant and Graham's talent alone still keeps Michigan's defensive interior among the best in all of college football.

Kenneth Grant came in third on Bruce Feldman's Freaks List with his almost unbelievable testing numbers at well over 300 pounds, and Mason Graham is right there with him in terms of athletic ability. Both seem poised to hear their names called in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

However, Nagy also highlighted their edge-rushing duo in Josaiah Stewart and Derrick Moore. Michigan lost their "starting" edge duo from last year in Jaylen Harrell and Braiden McGregor, but Stewart and Moore are arguably more talented than both. Their film shows pretty enticing traits that will endear them to NFL evaluators and their production should skyrocket now that they are the full-time starters.

Michigan's defensive line has a chance to rival the 2018 Clemson Tigers that saw three players selected in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft (Clelin Ferrell, Dexter Lawrence, Christian Wilkins) and had all four starters drafted in the first four rounds. Under new defensive coordinator Wink Martindale, this group should be the most disruptive room in college football. The Wolverines are counting on this group to lead the team through the beginning of a rebuild in 2024.
