Kirk Cousins Reveals How Aaron Rodgers Helped Him With Achilles Injury

Kirk Cousins suffered an Achilles injury midway through last season with the Minnesota Vikings. Despite that, the 36-year-old veteran quarterback is set to start for the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1 this season. During a recent interview, Cousins revealed the role Aaron Rodgers played in helping him overcome the injury.

Rodgers suffered the same injury in Week 1 in 2023. It left him out of the lineup for the entire season and the New York Jets failed to make the playoffs. Roughly eight weeks later, Cousins fell to the same injury.

While guest appearing on The Rich Eisen Show , Cousins revealed that he reached out to Rodgers right before entering surgery . The now Falcons quarterback claims Rodgers provided helpful information to help him with the recovery process.

"We spoke the day before my surgery. We spoke over the phone. He was about eight weeks in. I was basically able to ask him 'What have the first eight weeks been like?'"

It's cool that Rodgers even "checked back in" with Cousins later in the season to see how he's doing. Overall, Cousins seems confident in his injury recovery. He's set to be the starting quarterback for Atlanta this season despite the front office selecting rookie quarterback, Michael Penix Jr. in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

We should see both Cousins and Rodgers on the field this year. The hype around the Jets isn't as big as it was last season but the fanbase might just be trying to prevent getting ahead of themselves. New York has a stellar roster right now especially after the club upgraded the offensive line.

Meanwhile, the Falcons are shaping up to be a potential playoff contender in the NFC South. Cousins takes over as the starting quarterback with Drake London, Kyle Pitts, and Bijan Robinson around him. On top of that, the defense is expected to be much improved as well.

The Jets are set to begin the season on September 9 against the San Francisco 49ers. It's a tough matchup considering San Francisco is considered a Super Bowl contender out of the NFC West.

Meanwhile, the Falcons kickoff their season on September 8 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pittsburgh is currently going through a quarterback change but head coach Mike Tomlin always has his team playing at a high level. It's a nice test for Cousins and the Falcons early in the season.
