Benson Henderson Booked for Misfits Boxing 18

    2024-08-21

Former UFC champion Benson Henderson may have retired from professional mixed martial arts combating in 2023 but the fighter is not completely done with the sport. With that, Misfits Boxing said Henderson will fight another ex-UFC and Bellator competitor Chris Avila at a light heavyweight one-night tournament. This fight, which forms the influencer promotion’s campaign, will be at the Vertu Motors Arena in Newcastle, England, on the 14th of September, 2024.

    Benson Henderson vs. Chris Avila

The format will be a knock-out tournament and there are two semi-final games. Among the arrays, Benson Henderson and Chris Avila will fight each other, and Idris Virgo will fight with Fes Batista on the other side of the bracket. The winners of these two fights will take on each other later that evening to decide the overall champion of the tournament.

It is the first boxing fight for Benson who tested himself in various other combat sports before this bout. Following the trial against Anthony Pettis in the hybrid Karate Combat last December and submission wrestling bouts, Benson Henderson plans to put on a pair of gloves and enter the boxing ring for the first time.

A proud Bay Area native, Chris Avila who was trained by Nate Diaz has moved to boxing and is also doing well. Avila has gone six fights undefeated in the ring, to his credit he has knocked out fighters like Anthony Pettis, Jeremy Stephens, and Anthony Taylor among others. Avila has not lost a fight in his career and therefore will be a tough challenge for him in the coming tournament.

Main Event: Elle Brooke vs. Jenny Savage

Apart from the tournament, the Misfits card will have a main fight in which online star Elle Brooke will defend her MFB middleweight belt against Jenny Savage, a fighter from BKFC. Brooke competed last in a closely-sped draw against UFC alumni Paige VanZant in May 2024. The fight that seemed would set up a rematch between Brooke and VanZant is not yet materializing at the moment.

Before going into hiatus, VanZant signed a multi-fight deal with Misfits Boxing and will be in combat soon. However, they are yet to know if the next bout she will be having is with Brooke or with another contender. Watching the forever looming Brooke-VanZant rematch lends a very interesting air to the future of Misfits Boxing.

As Misfits Boxing gears up for its MF & DAZN, as seen during the X Series 18 event, the energy is high. In a bout between Benson Henderson who steps into the boxing ring for the first time and Avila, who is on the quest to make it four wins on the bounce, the fight fans around the world are in for an action-packed evening.

    Conclusion

As it looks now, the X Series 18 event plans to give combat sports fans a night to remember. Benson Henderson’s boxing match record alongside Chris Avila’s record creates a good platform for one of the most competitive tournaments. Another interesting feature of the card is the rematch between Elle Brooke and Jenny Savage for the championship title. All will be watching because the results of these rematches may well dictate the path and direction of rivalries at the Misfits Boxing.
