SOUTHINGTON, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Southington Police arrest two teens in connection with the pursuit of a stolen vehicle that crashed into a police cruiser and civilian vehicle.

Police say they responded to the report of a stolen 2013 Hyundai Elantra entering Southington from Bristol.

Officers found the Elantra parked in the area of West Queen and Newell Streets but say it pulled away from police at a reckless speed, so police didn't pursue it.

The Elantra continued at a high speed, going through a red light and crashing into a Mercedes SUV on Queen near River Streets.

Airbags deployed and both vehicles became disabled.

The driver of the Mercedes had minor injuries but was not hospitalized.

As for the two teens driving the stolen vehicle, ages 16 and 17, one surrendered while the other ran away.

The teen who fled was found behind a private business on Birch Drive.

    Both teens are facing charges.

The 16-year-old boy is charged with interferences, third-degree larceny, and conspiracy to commit assault on a public safety officer.

The 17-year-old boy is charged with interference, theft of a motor vehicle, third-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit assault on a public safety officer, assault on a public safety officer, first-degree criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, evading responsibility with personal injury, and failure to obey a traffic control signal.

Both are being held in juvenile detention.

Connecticut needs to change their justice system. Sadly they will get out and do the same thing again. The drug dealers and chop shops pay these under 18 to do their dealing and stealing . They know they will get realist to their parents slap on the wrist
