NORTH HAVEN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - The Connecticut Office of Inspector General is taking over the investigation into shots exchanged during a barricade situation earlier this week.

North Haven Police say a family dispute led Robert Mazurek, 50, of North Haven, to have a mental health crisis. He barricaded himself within a home that had guns in it on Cloudland Road.

At one point during the 14-hour standoff, Mazurek opened fire. That's when SWAT officers returned fire. No one was hurt.

Mazurek, who was eventually taken into custody, is being charged with five counts of criminal attempt to commit assault on a police or public safety officer, first-degree criminal attempt to commit assault, illegal discharge of a firearm, first-degree threatening with a firearm, first-degree reckless endangerment, and second-degree breach of peace.

    Bond is $5,000,000.

The State Inspector General is taking over the investigation into the police use of force.
