The St. Louis Cardinals pulled off a dramatic come-from-behind victory on Wednesday night against the Milwaukee Brewers. They had been one out away from another devastating loss before mounting their comeback.

However, the win likely does not save them from their ultimate fate this season. The Cardinals have tumbled out of contention and will likely not only miss the playoffs, but finish under .500 for the second straight year.

On Foul Territory , Katie Woo of The Athletic suggested that there could be some big changes in the offseason if things continue to go south.

"Desperate times call for desperate measures," Woo said on Wednesday. "Could we see some big changes? I certainly wouldn't rule it out."

The nature of such changes is unknown, but the Cardinals could go a lot of different directions if they fall short of the postseason again and finish below .500.

Manager Oli Marmol was given an extension in spring training, but President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak could potentially take the hit, and if the Cardinals choose to go a different direction in their front office, they could follow that up with some changes on the coaching staff.

The team's offense has plagued them all season long and has led them to where they are now. Hitting coach Turner Ward could be another member of the coaching staff that might be on his way out if things don't change.

As far as replacements go, they could look at former Cardinal Skip Schumaker as a managerial replacement if Marmol is let go. Future Hall-of-Famer Terry Francona is also available.

Mozeliak could also pass the torch to Chaim Bloom in the front office. It will be interesting to see what happens with the Cardinals at the end of the season if things continue to go south.
