Igor Shesterkin's Camp In Talks With Rangers Regarding Massive Contract Extension

Igor Shesterkin is set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer as he is due for a monster contract extension.
There hasn’t been very much noise on the progress the New York Rangers and Shesterkin have made regarding a new contract extension, but the superstar goalie revealed that negotiations have started.
“My agent, Maxim Moliver, is talking to the general manager,” Shesterkin said. “I can’t say anything else. For me, the most important thing now is preparing for the season and being 100% ready mentally and physically. An exciting season is ahead, and the agent will discuss the contract.”
According to the New York Posts’ Mollie Walker , there’s reason to believe that Shesterkin’s camp is aiming for as high as $12 million a year, which would make him the highest paid goalie in the NHL.
That would make him the highest paid goaltender in NHL history, an incredible achievement for Shesterkin, but a big financial risk on the part of the Rangers.
New York just can’t afford to lose Shesterkin who is the heart and sole of the team, so it seems Chris Drury might be forced to give in to his high asking price.
This past season, the 28-year-old recorded a 36-17-2 record, 2.58 goals against average and .913 save percentage.
These discussions certainly won’t be easy, but so far through his impressive play, Shesterkin has proven he is worth every penny.
