The daughter called her mother to pick her up. Her mother likely took her time because hospital discharges usually take a long time. Before the mother arrived, the daughter expired. For some reason, the hospital told the mother that the daughter checked herself out. This could have been an unintentional mistake, perhaps there was a shift change and adequate communication didn’t occur. It could have been intentional to cover something up, to delay an autopsy, etc. It is odd that the daughter would think she’s being discharged but then expires rather quickly. However, this can happen, and it does happen. It shocks me they took a year to figure this out. With this said, regardless of what happened, it is still inexcusable.
