If you or someone you love has ever spent time in the hospital, you’re familiar with how long and depressing those days can feel. While it’s difficult for adults to manage these times, it can be even more challenging for sick children just who want to go outside and play with their friends.

So, it’s no surprise that a visit from a well-mannered fluffy Goldendoodle could make anyone’s day brighter. This good boy is an expert, and this compilation of the best moments shared on August 21 will surely touch your heart.

Brodie (@ brodiethatdood ) is a remarkable pup, and it’s inspiring to see the difference he and his dad, Cliff, have made when they visit kids in the hospital. The smiles that light up their faces the moment they see him coming are a testament to the power of love and dogs. Even as these children get excited, Brodie remains calm and careful, somehow knowing that they are in a more fragile state. However, when the doctors and nurses get excited about his visit, he shows off his charming enthusiasm, lifting their spirits and making them smile. It’s incredible to think of how these visits can offer a powerful level of healing that modern medicine cannot.

Training Needed for Dogs to Visit Hospitals

The AKC Therapy Dog Program ensures certified organizations offer specific tests to help your pup become a certified therapy dog. These tests evaluate the dog’s temperament, behavior, and ability to interact with people calmly and gently. Dogs are tested on their reaction to loud noises, handling by strangers, and the ability to remain relaxed in chaotic environments like hospitals. Therapy dogs are typically required to obtain recertification to ensure they remain suitable for hospital visits.

This touching video made people feel emotional. Viewer @sunny_side_of_dasha shared, “Oh my goodness. You guys are the best. Thank you for what you do by bringing love & smiles & laughter to these kiddos’ lives. Now I’m bawling my eyes out.” It’s a tear-jerking video, for sure! Viewer @animalzown reported, “You don’t know how much this helps kids heal and feel better! Laughing, doing something they like, petting an animal, etc., all have positive qualities for hospital stays. I wish they had something like this when my brother was in the hospital decades ago.” They make such a difference. Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital (@jdchospital) confirmed, “Brodie and Cliff, you two are the ultimate joy-bringers. Your visits light up our halls and put huge smiles on everyone’s faces. We’re beyond grateful for the wagging tail and furry cuddles you bring. Thank you!”

While we might not be able to volunteer with our dogs, we can offer kindness to strangers. We never know what someone may be going through and the difference a smile can make.
