PHOENIX – The southbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) on-ramp at Cactus Road will be closed for “approximately” 60 days beginning Monday, Aug. 26, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT).

The closure is part of ADOT’s ongoing freeway widening project in north Scottsdale, and the ramp will be reconstructed during this time.

Drivers who typically use the Cactus Road on-ramp are advised to use alternate routes, such as entering the southbound Loop 101 via the Shea Boulevard on-ramp, according to ADOT.

The department also urges motorists in the area to allow extra travel time, reduce speeds, and remain cautious around construction zones as crews work to improve the freeway.

According to ADOT, the $108 million Pima Freeway Improvement Project, which began in January, includes adding one lane in each direction along a 4.5-mile stretch north of Shea Boulevard.

The project also involves reconstructing several on- and off-ramps between Shea Boulevard and Pima Road/Princess Drive to accommodate the wider freeway.

Additional improvements include converting the Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard interchange to a diamond configuration, as well as upgrading signs, traffic signals, and lighting.

The project is funded in part by Proposition 400, a half-cent sales tax approved by Maricopa County voters in 2004, according to ADOT.

The project is scheduled for completion by early 2026 and is part of the Regional Transportation Plan managed by the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG), according to ADOT.
