Scott is on the hunt, specifically, for a hire who can honor the restaurant’s storied past (first opened in 1922, it was a noted nightlife and gambling spot during Prohibition; then a magnet for mid-century celebrities; later a hub for power lunches, tourist dinners, and special occasions) while still keeping up with the demands required of running a modern San Francisco restaurant. </p><p>Scott has a general manager and an IT professional already on board, per the Standard; he’s currently accepting applications for chef. “Right now we’re interviewing for the king or the queen of the castle,” Scott told the Standard. Could that be you?</p><h2>Bissap Baobab’s late-night dreams come true</h2><p>Mission Street West African restaurant Bissap Baobab, a late-night hotspot for Afrobeats, live music, and dancing, can now stay open until 4 a.m. on weekend nights thanks to a unanimous vote by the San Francisco Entertainment Commission, Mission Local reports. The vote was a quick one — it took about five minutes for commissioners to grant their approval. Looks like the extended hours will bring even more dancing, including flamenco and salsa nights, according to a restaurant representative who attended the hearing. Bissap Baobab will still stop serving alcohol at 2 a.m., though, per state law. </p><h2>Stonestown Galleria gets three new restaurants</h2><p>San Francisco’s Stonestown Galleria is getting three new restaurants in early 2025 or possibly sooner, the San Francisco Business Times reports. Le Soleil, a Vietnamese fusion restaurant from chef Dennis Wong, promises a menu of banh xeo (savory crepes), papaya salad, squid ink fried rice, and more; Kizuki Ramen &amp; Izakaya specializes, of course, in ramen and izakaya. Supreme Dumplings is known for its handmade xiao long bao, or soup dumplings, offered in both savory and sweet varieties. </p><h2>Trader Vic’s turns 90</h2><p>Out in Emeryville, the flagship Trader Vic’s, home of the mai tai cocktail, is throwing a 90th anniversary party — it happens to be the 80th anniversary of the mai tai, too. From Friday, August 23 to 25, the restaurant will commemorate the anniversaries with a series of events, including a black tie event, a bar crawl, and a Mai Tai celebration.
