Washington Commanders trading Jahan Dotson to Eagles left some players 'speechless'

For some Washington Commanders fans, the trade of former first-round pick Jahan Dotson to the Philadelphia Eagles was hardly a surprise.

However, for players, the tune is quite different.

Wide receiver Martavis Bryant, for example, told 7News DC’s Scott Abraham the following: “We actually found out earlier, like y’all did; It was kind of a shock to us. It’s all part of the business. Gotta keep moving.”

Another wideout, Dyami Brown, told Abraham that he was “speechless” following the news.

Then there was offensive lineman Sam Cosmi, speaking with JP Finlay of NBC Sports: “I mean, unexpected, you know. Kind of like a shocker. You hate to see it, but there’s a business aspect to this game that is bigger than me, bigger than the guys in the locker room.”

Dotson, though, never seemed to find solid footing with the new regime in Washington under Dan Quinn and notably struggled during training camp and preseason games. His comments in interviews about his place seemed to foreshadow a move , too.

While the hope seemed to be that Dotson could live up to his first-round potential in the same offense as No. 1 Terry McLaurin, he struggled to even break away from rookie Luke McCaffrey in the slot competition.

Even so, the trade of a high-profile draft pick is a risky move for a new regime – especially when the front office shipped him to an NFC East rival in the form of those Eagles. If Dotson happens to turn it around there, the Commanders will hear about it often.
