    Great list! I've read them all! My fav Hugo, though, is THE MAN WHO LAUGHS. GONE WITH THE WIND and WAR AND PEACE similar in many ways but GWTW reads much faster. (Tolstoy's masterpiece is ANNA K.) I'd add PILLARS OF THE EARTH and CANNERY ROW. And yes, The Name of the Rose might be best murder mystery ever written.

    Ummm….Queen Victoria wasn’t even born yet when Jane Austen wrote P&P! So it doesn’t depict the Victorian era. Geez.
