Demand Grows For College Football Coach's Dismissal After Season Opener

This offseason, college football saw many head coaching changes. The Alabama Crimson Tide, Washington Huskies, Arizona Wildcats, Michigan State Spartans, Oregon State Beavers, and Michigan Wolverines were some of the programs that changed head coaches.

Fans were calling for Florida State Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell to be fired after the team lost to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Week Zero. Georgia Tech, historically, did not have an outstanding record against ranked opponents. The Yellow Jackets hit a 44-yard game-winning field goal as time expired in Dublin, Ireland.

It was not the start that Florida State fans had hoped for after last season. Florida State finished 13-1 in 2023 after losing to the Georgia Bulldogs in the Orange Bowl.

Many Florida State fans said the 2024 season should be Mike Norvell's last in Tallahassee after the loss. Others talked about how fraudulent of a coach he was. One fan even wanted former head coach Jimbo Fisher back at Florida State. Fisher last coached for the Texas A&M Aggies last season.

Luckily for Florida State, the College Football Playoff has 12 teams instead of four. However, this is not an ideal start for last season's ACC champions.

The Florida State offense struggled overall. The Georgia Tech defense held Florida State to 291 yards of total offense. DJ Uiagalelei finished the game with 193 passing yards.

Florida State returns home to face the Boston College Eagles on Sept. 2.
