3 players Vikings should be all-in on if they're cut this week

The Minnesota Vikings are 3-0 coming out of the preseason and have looked good in doing so. The Vikings thrived over the last 10 quarters, outscoring their opponents by a 70-18 score.

Now, the preseason isn't everything. What it does give you is a sense of how confident you can be with your depth. Sure, they aren't playing against the top guys on the other team, but if you play really well against the third team, you can project them forward against the second and first teams in terms of potential.

The Vikings, like every other team, will need to reduce their roster to 53 players by Tuesday afternoon. That will mean over 1,000 players will be released or waived over four days. There will be some surprises, and the Vikings could take advantage of them. What players could the Vikings bring in who could be impactful in the future?

    Tennessee CB Caleb Farley

Everyone has one player that they refuse to give up on. Farley is one of those for me. Coming out of the NFL Draft in 2021, I had Farley as my top cornerback. His combination of size and athleticism was incredibly enticing coming out of Virginia Tech. After the Tennessee Titans selected Farley one pick before the Vikings selected left tackle Christian Darrisaw, things have not gone well.

Farley dealt with injuries as a Hokie in college and those have followed him to the National Football League. Farley has only played in 12 games with the Titans and has fallen out of favor, especially with the front office and coaching staff having changed since he was selected. If the athleticism is still there, Farley could be a fun reclamation project that has some real upside.

    Houston RB Dameon Pierce

The Vikings have question marks at the running back position after the 2024 season. Aaron Jones is only on a one-year contract but he does have void years on his contract which makes it easier to bring him back. Kene Nwangwu is on an expiring contract but Ty Chandler is making strides to potentially take over in the backfield.

What the Vikings are doing in the run game is shifting more towards an inside zone and man/gap/power approach, something that fits Pierce's game more than the outside zone approach under Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik. He has gone severely out of favor over the last year and could use a fresh start. Bringing him in could end up being a massive steal for the Vikings.

    Tennessee WR Treylon Burks

Another Tennessee Titan on this list. They had a rough stretch of drafts, especially in the first round. It's a big reason why the organization made major changes across the board. The Titans traded A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles and selected Burks minutes later. It was thought that Burks would just replaced Brown, as they have similar body types but the skills that Burks has don't equate 1:1.

It's been a struggle for Burks to see the field for the Titans and will be harder after the team brought in Calvin Ridley. Burks was a yards after catch guy at Arkansas who needed time to develop and hasn't been done so. With his unique combination of size, speed and YAC ability, Burks would be worth a flyer to see if the offensive staff can make him into something.
