JANESVILLE – One person was injured in an apartment building fire in Janesville Sunday afternoon.

According to a release, Janesville firefighters responded about 1:25 p.m. Sunday to a call of a blaze at 2006 Morningside Dr. Lakeside Fire Rescue and Janesville police also responded to the scene.

Firefighters arriving on the scene found smoke coming from a first-floor apartment in the rear of the two-story, eight-unit building. Janesville police were already actively helping building residents evacuate after pulling an alarm to notify them of the fire.

The damage was isolated to one apartment. After the fire was extinguished and the building was ventilated, residents of the remaining seven units were able to return home.

One resident was treated at Mercy Hospital for injuries.

The American Red Cross is providing residents of the damaged apartment with temporary housing. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
