Iconic Wyoming Ski Resort Celebrates First Snow of the Season

It's not even September and ski resorts across the American west are reporting their first dustings of snow for the season.

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR), Wyoming celebrated their first snowfall on the morning of August 26, 2024. Check out the exciting photos below.

First snows of the season rarely produce much in the form of accumulation, but it appears that enough stuck around to transform Jackson Hole's upper elevations into a wintry wonderland. It's even more impressive when you consider that it's the end of August.

Jackson Hole isn't the only ski resort in the United States to notch their first snowfall from this particular storm. Mt. Bachelor , Oregon saw flakes fall on Friday, August 24, 2024, and nearly all of Lake Tahoe's upper elevations logged snow on Saturday, August 25th, 2024.

In summary, it was a fantastic weekend for snow-obsessed people out there longing for the end of the summer. It might be a bit early to get our hopes up, but fresh flakes in the dead heat of August is a satisfying tease, at the very least.

Temperatures are expected to return to more seasonable levels as the cold front moves east, but JHMR already has their eyes set on the winter season. Barring adverse conditions from Mother Nature, JHMR plans to open for the season on November 29, 2024.

POWDER was on-hand at Jackson Hole's world-record-breaking Jeans Ski Weekend in December of 2023. The event was a blast and saw over 3,000 skiers rock their best denim in well-below freezing temperatures.

The resort has yet to announce a second-annual Jeans Ski Weekend for Winter '24/'25, but the recent snowstorm has us hoping the event will return. It was one of the highlights of our season, and any news about the event will certainly be on our radar.
