1 dead in northwoods ATV crash

A 66-year-old man is dead after he struck a telephone pole with his ATV Sunday in Oneida County, officials said.

The crash was reported at about 6:15 p.m. on Lakewood Road near Sand Lake Road in the town of Cassian. Police say the man missed a curve before striking the pole.

Witnesses attempted life saving measures, however, the driver died at the scene. His name is being withheld pending family notification.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is completing the accident report. The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Cassian first responders, Oneida County EMS, DNR, Minocqua Police Department and the Oneida County Medical Examiner’s Department.
