HEAT ALERT: Feels-like temps over 100 today, thunderstorms possible this evening

There is a HEAT ADVISORY in effect for most of NJ with a HEAT WARNING in effect for Mercer, northern Burlington, Gloucester and Camden counties. High summer heat and humidity build across New Jersey today making for a very sweaty experience! There will be a front approaching the state for the later evening tonight that sparks thunderstorms mostly in southern New Jersey. Most of northern NJ should stay clear of any rain due to the changes in the track of this front. The updated data shows the front will push instability and thunderstorms to the southern areas of the state, which may clip Mercer, Ocean, and southern Monmouth counties with thunderstorms by 8 p.m. tonight. We are no longer concerned about pop-up thunderstorms today as these will be driven into the state as the front passes through. They can be severe, but most of them will be to the south. The temperatures cool into tomorrow with highs only near 77 degrees. It will be mostly cloudy through the end of this week, too. The weekend currently doesn't look bad, but it's not perfect. Let's call it fair! Saturday will be mostly cloudy with highs near 78. Sunday will also be mostly cloudy with a round of passing rain showers. Nothing severe. The timing of the rain is still subject to change. Monday looks great and sunny, but cool with highs in the upper 70s. It should be a good weekend for the beach as temperatures are not overwhelming. However, we just need to carefully monitor Sunday's passing showers. "
