The Jacksonville Jaguars have begun their roster cuts, and among those released is former Pittsburgh Steelers starter and first-round pick, Terrell Edmunds . As reported by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Edmunds signed with the Jaguars this offseason after a brief stint with the Tennessee Titans. This move marks another chapter in what has been a journeyman's path for the safety since leaving Pittsburgh.

Edmunds, drafted by the Steelers in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, was a consistent presence in Pittsburgh's secondary, starting 75 of his 79 games with the team. During his tenure with the Steelers, Edmunds recorded 410 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, five sacks, and five interceptions, serving as a key contributor alongside Minkah Fitzpatrick.

After leaving the Steelers in 2023, Edmunds signed with the Philadelphia Eagles but only appeared in seven games before being traded to the Titans, where he finished the season. Last year, Edmunds managed 48 tackles, 2.5 sacks, two tackles for loss, and an interception in 16 games, including four starts.

Now, with his release from the Jaguars, Edmunds' future is once again uncertain. Rapoport suggests that Edmunds could be a candidate for Jacksonville’s practice squad, though his journey may not end there. The veteran safety is eligible to be picked up by any team before clearing waivers. Should he go unclaimed, he has the option to sign with the Jaguars' practice squad or explore opportunities with other teams.

Despite his solid track record in Pittsburgh, the Steelers are unlikely to bring Edmunds back. With DeShon Elliott now starting alongside Minkah Fitzpatrick, and Damontae Kazee serving as the primary backup, Pittsburgh’s safety room appears set. Additionally, with depth provided by Miles Killebrew and potentially rookie Ryan Watts, the Steelers are well-stocked at the position.

As the NFL season approaches, Edmunds will be watching the waiver wire closely, hoping for an opportunity to return to an active roster and continue his career in 2024.
