ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The World Bird Sanctuary says an eagle shot through the beak has a long road to recovery.

KMOX told viewers about how veterinarians at the sanctuary in Valley Park, Missouri had been working hard to save a bald eagle that was shot in the beak.

Veterinarians at the sanctuary have performed multiple surgeries, using pins and adhesive to stabilize what's left.

The World Bird Sanctuary is hoping there's enough of a growth plate for the beak to grow back

Executive Director Roger Holloway tells KMOX that the eagle has gained weight and is "staying feisty".

While the beak is stable and there's no infection, Holloway says they still have a long way to go before they know if it will fully grow back.
