Billionaire Ken Griffin Moved His Co. From IL To FL. Details Emerge On The Huge Compound To House It

Some Floridians are probably aware of billionaire Ken Griffin's path to Florida. I've covered his journey to Florida (along with his company Citadel) with several Newsbreak articles. From his move from Chicago to his millions in donations to some of Florida's institutions, Griffin has made Florida his own. And now, it looks as if the move may be quite permanent - as Griffin's company is building a massive office tower in south Florida - and details have been released.

Citadel Has Already Expanded Its Current Office Space: In June of 2024, I wrote about how Citadel announced that it would begin taking up 8 floors at 830 Brickell Plaza. The company reportedly needed additional space due to "another wave" of hiring.

Details On The New Brickel Headquarters Tower For Citadel: Companies associated with Ken Griffin have filed a pre-application with Miami-Dade County regarding the future headquarters of Citadel. At that time, details were a bit sparse, but now we have more details.

The building will be 1,032-foot-tall with 1.3 million square feet of office space and 212 hotel rooms close to Brickell Bay Drive. Groundbreaking is reportedly set to begin in the third quarter of 2025. Construction is expected to take at least five years. The building will include restaurant space, underground parking spaces, and an outdoor terrace.

A spokesperson for Griffin told BISNOW:

“The development of this iconic, world-class tower at 1201 Brickell will redefine the Miami skyline and further solidify this dynamic and vibrant city as a global destination for talented professionals and their families, businesses, and culture."

Griffin has criticized the “deluge of bureaucracy” in parts of the north in the past and commented, “It’s such a contrast to be here in South Florida."

The author is not affiliated with Citadel.
