On Tuesday, August 20, the Mount Pleasant city council had a full plate as they sat at city hall. There were up to 12 different topics tackled and a number of plans were approved to move forward, including the proposal for the 2025 Fiscal Year Tax Rate The proposal that passed was no new revenue tax rate, approved unanimously by the council and Mayor Tracy Craig. The city presented graphs and comparison rates for the public to view during the meeting, and also discussed numbers that had previously been shown in a prior budget workshop meeting.

Interim City Manager Greg Nyhoff explained, “So here is where you say this would be the revenue coming into the city. No new revenue means you actually would lower the tax rate from where it currently is and that the revenue coming into the city would be the same and so you look at that number– it’s no new revenue– which actually would be a decrease in the tax rate.”

The other agenda items that the council and Mayor approved are as follows:

    • Pay request #2 from SPI and #3 from C.E. Malar & Associates for work on downtown revitalization project

    • Pay request #15 from Heritage Construction for work at Southside Wastewater Treatment Plant

    • Change order #4 for Wastewater Treatment Plant improvements

    • Pay request #8 from Wicker Construction for work on Sports Complex Regional Lift Station

    • IDC expenditure for Texas Workforce Commission High Demand job training grant match, partnership with NTCC

    • Preliminary plat for Anderson Towne Crossing addition, Phase One

    • Final plat for The Urbans on 17th addition
