(Denison) Iowa State Patrol Trooper and Public Information Officer Shelby McCreedy says teen traffic fatalities are trending lower. Trooper McCreedy says teen traffic fatalities trended upward post-COVID, except for this year, with 11 death teen deaths on Iowa’s roadways as of July, down from 21 at this same time in 2023.

Trooper McCreedy says there are a couple of issues with teenage drivers contributing to the fatalities. The first is inexperience.

McCreedy says the other risk is teens sometimes underestimate the risk of driving a vehicle.

Trooper McCreedy says teens sometimes overestimate their ability to handle traffic and road conditions, which can lead to motor vehicle crashes.
