The Atlanta Braves are looking for a series sweep vs. the Minnesota Twins tonight on their field, as their offense came alive in the 10th inning last night as they scored 4 runs in extra innings. The pitching matchup is skewed on paper and it will take the Twins playing a near-perfect game to avoid the sweep with Chris Sale on the mound.
Braves vs Twins Fantasy Starts
Harris is starting to heat back up after being on the IL for a chunk of the season. Harris has 6 hits in the past seven days with two home runs in that span. Harris was day to day after being hit in the wrist with a fastball but after getting a start and hitting a home run on his first at-bat back from the wrist injury, it looks like Harris should be back in center field every day for the Braves barring any setbacks.
Wallner is hitting .353 in the past week with three home runs and five runs batted in. He followed that up last night by going 2-3 with a walk, raising his average to .280 on the season. While his splits are weaker against lefties, the Twins have been hitting the Braves bullpen well this series, so look for them to try and work Sale’s pitch count early to get into the Braves bullpen.
Braves vs Twins Fantasy Sits
Royce Lewis, 3B, Minnesota Twins
The oft-injured power-hitting third baseman has been struggling as of late, only batting .217 in the past seven days. Lewis has gone 0-8 so far in this series against the Braves and with Chris Sale taking the mound against the Twins tonight Lewis should be benched until he starts to perform better at the plate.
Austin Martin, OF, Minnesota Twins
Martin has gone 1-8 in this series against the Braves and he is only hitting .241 against lefties this year. Given he will be facing one of the best lefties in baseball Chris Sale tonight, it doesn’t look good for him to improve his stat line against the Braves.
Sean Murphy, C, Atlanta Braves
Travis d’Arnaud has gotten consecutive starts against the twins to start the series and has only gone 1-9 at the plate so Braves manager Brian Snitker will probably have Murphy behind the dish to catch for Chris Sale in the series finale. Murphy is only batting .200 in the past 15 days. You likely have plenty of other options on the waiver wire and should avoid starting Murphy if at all possible.
Braves vs Twins Pitching Matchup
Chris Sale LHP (14-3, 2.62 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 191 Ks, 147.2 IP) vs Davis Festa RHP (2-3, 5.20 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 44 Ks, 36.1 IP)
Sale has pitched three quality starts in a row and has gone 4-1 in his last five starts. He is having his best season in years and looks to continue his success against the twins in the series finale. If you have Sale on your roster you start him every time with no hesitation, even if he doesn’t get the run support for the win he is usually going to help your ERA, WHIP, and strikeouts.
Festa has gone 2-3 in his last five starts and has only made it past the fourth inning in three of those starts. The odds are that he is going to have a short leash against the Braves tonight. You probably aren’t relying on Festa unless you are in the deepest of leagues, and as hot as the Braves bats have been you want to avoid streaming him.
