High temperatures in late August are causing issues at schools and in the environment.

Today's excessive heat has several school districts making schedule adjustments. They include: Pittsburgh Public Schools, Freedom Area, New Kensington-Arnold and Shaler Area.

Over 45 Pittsburgh Public Schools will dismiss early on Wednesday.

You can see the dismissal list here:

Also, due to the heat, inversions are increasing ground-level ozone and that can make the air smell bad.

Why? Hydrogen sulfide levels are also rising and producing a smell like rotten eggs.

Hydrogen sulfide levels exceeded the standard set for Allegheny County on both Sunday and Monday.

It has happened 38 times so far this year.

The Allegheny County Health Department says Wednesday’s air quality forecast is just below the orange action level.

The threat of severe thunderstorms will suppress the threat of an air quality action day. The rain could impact the afternoon commute as well, with damaging winds and hail possible.
