'Kill the Speculation!' Dak Contract Coming, Assures CeeDee

FRISCO - Dallas Cowboys star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb has secured the bag, his record-setting four-year, $136 million deal having been officially signed here at The Star on Tuesday. And shortly after putting pen to paper, he met the media to address the next issue around here ...

Lamb pushing to secure his quarterback.

“You look at our numbers together, they’re at the top of the charts,'' Lamb said, endorsing the idea of a long-term pairing with Dak Prescott, who is involved in contract negotiations that if completed properly will prevent Dallas from seeing Dak shop himself next spring as a free agent. "I have no doubt that they’re gonna get a deal done.”

That level of optimism, in many areas, permeated the mood at The Star to start the week, with the Cowboys carving down their roster to a 53-man unit they believe can again be a playoff squad - and one led by Prescott, the MVP QB.

"We all know that I want Dak here. Jerry wants Dak here, too, so let’s just get this under control,'' Lamb said, "and kill the speculation.”

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones does indeed want that. What he doesn't want to do is once again "re-set the market'' at a position. But Lamb's deal does that ($38 million upfront is a record, and $34 million APY is the second-highest non-QB salary ever), and Dak's deal (more than $56 million APY? Maybe $60 million APY) might do it as well.

The Cowboys have set the start of regular season as a soft deadline on Prescott's contract resolution. In terms of distractions and uncertainty? Success there would at the very least "kill the speculation.''
