PORTERVILLE, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Seven drivers were cited at a DUI checkpoint in Porterville, the Porterville Police Department said.

On Friday, Aug. 23, police say seven citations were issued to the unlicensed drivers at a DUI checkpoint. According to police, 244 vehicles were contacted.

The DUI checkpoint was held at Henderson Avenue east of Indiana Street from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Police say DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.

The next DUI checkpoint will be held on Sept. 20.
